Cleaning your Wire Sculpted Jewelry

Wire Sculpted Jewelry is a little more fragile than casted jewelry and needs a little extra attention, but with care and love it is totally worth the work to enjoy your beautiful piece that isn't just jewelry but a piece of art.

Hand Cleaning - To hand clean each piece of jewelry you buy from Wound Around I would suggest using Sunshine Polishing Cloth, rub your jewelry gently until you get the shine you desire.  For swirls, always rub in the direction of the swirl.  After you have cleaned your piece with your Sunshine Polishing Cloth , wipe it off with a clean, dry piece of cloth (old white t-shirts work the best).  Don't worry about wiping your jewelry with the Sunshine cloth until the black stops coming off, that won't happen, only wipe it until it shines the way you want it to.

Other Tips and Tricks to Keep Your Jewelry looking Great

Put on jewellery only after applying all make up, hair products and perfume. Do not immerse your jewellery in soapy water or swimming pools.  Although I've worn my Sterling/Gold-Fill Cuff bracelets for two years straight and wash my hand with them and they seem to be fine.  If you have stones on/in your jewelry you have to be a bit more careful.

Sterling silver tarnishes naturally. The best way to delay the tarnishing process is to wear your jewellery frequently and then store it in an air-tight container when not worn.  I suggest also using 3M Anti-Tarni sheilds , each shield lasts about 3-6 months (up to one year in sealed environment) and you can buy more at www.woundaround.com when you need them. 3M Anti-Tarni Shields are great for customer home use.  Put one 1"x1" tab in each box containing jewelry to help to eliminate tarnishing.  Safe for use with Silver, Nickel, Copper, Bronze, Brass, Tin, and Gold. 

Remove rings and bracelets before working with your hands. The hardness of gemstones and metals is measured by a gem-trade standard called the Mohs scale. The higher the Mohs rating, the harder the stone.

Gemstones with a Mohs rating of 7 and above are less likely to get scratched. Gemstones with a Mohs rating lower than 6 are softer and must be treated carefully to prevent scratching. Precious metals like gold, silver and platinum have a Mohs rating of 2-1/2 to 4 and require extra care when wearing and storing. Check out our Meanings of Stones page for some of the ratings.

A mild soap and water solution along with a soft brush may be used to clean most gemstones. However, do not use soap and water to clean amber, coral, emerald, jade, lapis lazuli, opal, or turquoise.  Any jewelry that you purchase from www.woundaround.com that is metal only should be pretty hardy.  I'm not particularly easy in my jewelry and it seems to be holding up great for me.

Carefully wipe your jewellery with a soft chamois or flannel cloth after wearing it to remove oils and salts. This is especially important for pearls.

Store jewellery in separate pouches to avoid scratching of other jewelry.
